Tips to Support a New Mama

Hi friends! It’s happening, as we get older our friend groups are starting to grow by two little feet! It’s not so taboo for another pregnancy announcement to drop, we are actually more excited than shocked at this point in our lives! But sometimes in our excitement to snuggle that fresh little nugget and inhale the new baby smell, we forget to support our new mama!

I’m going to share just a few ways you can make sure your visit is a blessing and not a burden on your new mom friend.

Ask How She’s Doing

It seems simple, but asking a new mom how she is really feeling is sometimes overlooked. Yes that sweet bundle of joy is the greatest thing in her entire existence but maybe she needs to vent or needs someone to just ask her how she’s doing.

Don’t Leave Without Doing Something

Do not ask her if its okay to wash her dishes, JUST DO IT. She’s not going to ask you too and even if you ask she may not want to burden you, so if you care just do it. Fix her a fresh glass of water, ask if she’d like a snack or meal, wash a dish, switch the laundry over (she just pushed out a baby I doubt she cares if you see her underwear haha)

Doing just a simple thing that takes it off her plate will allow her to relax a bit more.

Make Sure to Ask If You Can Bring Anything On Your Way Over

If you’re going to visit a new mom, she may not have had time or the will power to leave the house with a newborn in the last week, see if you can bring anything over. I remember not having enough newborn diapers because no one expected Rylie to be so teeny!

My bestie came over with “padcicles” (if you know you know) and I could have kissed her for it haha

Trust me it’ll make your company that much sweeter to help your friend out a bit, it only takes a few seconds to check in with her and see if there’s anything she needs. Not to mention we all know you’re looking for any reason to go see that baby anyways!

Get Her A Gift Card

Believe me, a simple gift card to a food subscription service or even a chick fil a gift card can go a long way for a new mom with no time or desire to cook!

I’m sure you’re thinking “duh” these seem pretty simple and they are! But they’re often overlooked as well. So keep these in the memory bank when visiting a new mom, she will love you more for it!
