All About the Brows
You can definitely say that trends are ever changing in the beauty industry and it seems like brows are making a comeback! I remember fighting with my mom about waxing my brows SUPER thin and far apart, and girl you couldn’t tell me nuthin! I thought it looked goooood haha
Looking back on pictures makes me cringe! I’ve definitely come a long way with my natural brows but they’ve just never been the same.
Wether you are like me and tormented your brows to no return or you just have naturally very thin, sparse brows, I have the solution for you!!
Microblading! It’s been around for quite a few years now but its just recently taken the beauty industry by storm. I had mine done for the first time about 4 years ago and I LOVED it. Basically its a semi-permanent tattoo, where an artist creates hair like strokes to mimic the natural brow and enhance the shape and density of your brow.
Alright so whats the low down you ask?! Lets break it down.
First things first. Price.
In my experience with any service you have, you typically get what you pay for. I paid $450 for mine both times and this includes the first touch up 6 weeks after your original appointment. I’ve seen lower prices and I’ve seen higher, so my best advice is to know your artist, do your research, look at before and afters and make sure you are confident in your decision. Because after all, this is ON YOUR FACE!
Secondly, Pain.
I won’t lie, it is a little painful. Not unbearable but definitely a little uncomfortable. Your artist will numb you before beginning and possibly during if you need it so don’t worry but bottom line is they are making small cuts in your skin and pressing a pigment into it so after a few minutes it starts to get irritated a bit and almost has a sore feeling when you’re done. But I promise that passes as soon as its over and its completely worth it!
Shape.
Your artist will map out your brows according to your face shape and what you should have vs what you have. This is the time to discuss style and preferences you have so that you and your artist are on the same page and you love your results!
DISCLAIMER! You will go through stages with your new brows, as soon as you get them done they will be VERY defined and the strokes will be very crisp, then day two they will be DARK, I mean DARK. And you’ll be like uhm what the heck haha but then they’ll start to scab and flake as they heal and they may even DISAPPEAR!! Yep you read that right lol the pigment will suck into your skin and they may disappear. But never fear they will return and then you’ll be ready for your touch up for what will be your final look!
They typically need to be touched up once a year beyond that.
Typical brow mapping shows the beginning of y0ur brow should start at the inner corner of your eye from the outside of your nose, your arch should be through the center of your eye from the outside of your nose and the tail of your brow should be from the outer corner of your eye from the outside of your nose.
I will link the instagram handle of my eyebrow guru @studiomariellelanza
She is truly a master of her trade and I would highly recommend her! Below are my personal before and afters.
There are also other styles of this technique, microblading, ombre brows, powder brows, hybrid etc. You can have an in depth consultation with your artist about what look is best for you and your lifestyle!
